surrounded by clouds

On asking people to come and see.

Week 2 of our ‘John: Life in His Name’ series at church.

This time we were looking at John 1:19-51. In the first verses, that we looked at last week, John explained all about how Jesus is the eternal word stepped into history, and in the verses we looked at today we saw John begin to offer evidence, in the form of witnesses, to prove that it’s true.

The first witnesses were John the Baptist and five disciples, and they all have much to say. Check it out for yourself if you’re interested.

One big message for today was the pattern that the disciples are part of:

  • Jesus calls them to come and see.
  • They go find friends or family or neighbours, and call them to come and see.
  • They go find friends or family or neighbours, and call them to come and see.
  • They go find friends or family or neighbours, and call them to come and see. (Hopefully you’re beginning to get the picture.)
  • I go find friends and family and neighbours and call them to come and see?

The big question for today then… am I following in these 2000 year old footsteps?

Hope your Sunday was a good one.

In summary: convinced by the witnesses.
