Today was a Durham day.
Starbucks for Theology Network fun, followed by Bible study writing interspersed with 1-2-1 joy, topped off with the final (and best, actually) SLOBS session in Uncover.
The theme for 1-2-1 stuff in Durham is Hebrews, and today I read 10:19-39 twice. With Joanna at eleven o’clock and with Heather at one o’clock.
What a great passage. I really do love Hebrews, but particularly the way that it just gets better and better the further through the letter that you’re reading.
I can’t wait for chapter 12. I love it.
But today we were in the second half of chapter 10 and I was struck by the very last verse:
But we are not of those who shrink back and are destroyed, but of those who have faith and preserve their souls. [v.39]
Not because we’re awesome or good or brave.
But because of Jesus.
He has opened a new and living way through the curtain.
He shed his blood so that we can enter into the holy places with confidence.
He who promised is faithful.
And so, so wonderful.
In summary: not shrinking back.
