surrounded by clouds

On rain & midges

Today has presented us with a horrifying mixture of rain and midges. The rain should, by all rights, get rid of the nasty, flying beasties, but somehow here in Keswick they have managed to find a way to co-exist.

I learnt my lesson after Saturday night when I received approximately 25 bites (really) and so I’ve taken to drowning myself in Deet before I head out in the evening. Unfortunately one of my colleagues wasn’t so prepared and managed to get bitten on his lip.
He looks like he’s been in a fight, with something rather larger than a grain of sand.
Very sad.

Still, weather reports suggest that we’ll be enjoying blue skies and 21 degree temperatures tomorrow, so at least we’ll have sunlight and dry ground beneath our feet whilst enduring the bug clouds.

In summary: British delights.
